An Ancestor

Did those hands knead pastries?
Did those fingers knit or sew?
Did those fingers dance piano keys
Or help seeds grow?

Did those eyes drink in novels?
Did those lips sing graceful tunes?
Did those eyes feast on works of art
Or gaze at the moon?

Did daily chores exhaust you?
Did you tend your child with care?
Did you pray piously to your God
Or live with reckless air?

Did dust gather in your home?
Did you love to entertain?
Did gatherings exhaust you?
Did you live well, without pain?

Your photo keeps your secrets
Perfect and in your prime,
A minute of a whole life lived
A moment caught in time.

Usually found with a cup of tea, a pet or a book, I am most content with life's humble gifts. A catch up with friends and home baked cakes is my idea of bliss. My heart beats where my family are close but my soul will always be in that place between sunset and sunrise. 💚
