Why Now?

Writing has been part of my life for as long as I can remember but I have never had the urge or courage to share my writing publicly until now.  I can remember writing poems in my bedroom as a young child, prolifically writing poems, diaries and letters to friends as a teen, setting up the school newspaper…and then pursuing a career as an English teacher nurturing a love of writing in my students.

This year, something shifted though and I returned to my writing with renewed fire and a conviction to share my work.  This stared off very gently; sharing specific poems with individuals and then realising that maybe they could be given a wider audience.  2020, I think, made many of us realise we have a wealth of courage and strength within us that we didn’t realise was there, but when pushed outside our comfort zone there is an opportunity to explore new ideas and see the world with different eyes.

I have seen so many friends, women in particular, who have arrived in their 40s and embraced this decade with a hunger to be true to themselves and relish their passions-particularly those who are emerging slightly dazed from a decade or more of raising a young family. As we see our children yawning their way into their own lives, we find the space to pick up the roadmap of our own.

This site is only here because of an exceptional network of people giving their time, energy and support in abundance- some through active encouragement, others with motivational honesty and ultimately my family giving me the space and time to do it uncomplainingly while the housework remained undone.

A perfect chaos of timing threw the right people into my path for this to be made possible.

If the writing resonates with just one person, evokes a smile, or gives someone a little bit of quiet in a crazy noisy world, I will be content.

Usually found with a cup of tea, a pet or a book, I am most content with life's humble gifts. A catch up with friends and home baked cakes is my idea of bliss. My heart beats where my family are close but my soul will always be in that place between sunset and sunrise. 💚
