Oh I’ll remember that day.
It’s almost the equinox
When all is in balance. Is equal.
When the scales are sky line straight.
Not yet though. No.
We’re not at all things equal.
I’ll remember the cancelled appointments
For those living. Life still in their veins.
I’ll remember the shut schools. Again…
And the messages a week ago
Every lesson matters.
I’ll remember the closed food banks.
A shameful legacy of a shameful decade.
Shameful stacks of unfed food.
I’ll remember the doctors bolting the doors.
Just call 999 if you really need help.
I’ll remember they said
Kite flying is disrespectful.
And riding bikes, now retracted
Erased from history.
Deleted. Absolutely. But they did.
I’ll remember that day.
It’s an historic event you see,
Once in a life time.
Just one day.
Funny that; that word “just”
Except it’s not funny at all.
Or just.
We’ve heard it before.
It wasn’t funny then either.
Or just.
Oh I’ll remember that day.
The day other funerals were cancelled
How many deaths do you want to grieve in one day?
I’ll remember this one day.
I’ll remember that I am just one.
As are we all just one.
I wonder what history will remember of that day?
I envy your blindfold just sometimes.
