Own it

The first little gaggle of books have landed in some of the most brilliant homes this week, and always, the support network ’42’ has built has exceeded all expectation in the lovely messages and photos you’ve sent letting me know she’s arrived safe and dry ☔

For the most part, this is where my journey with ’42’ ends … she now belongs to you, the reader and your thoughts and feelings about the pieces are between you and the book.

It’s always great to hear what people think or feel about specific pieces, and I adore every message I get about it but ultimately my hope is that you each now own the book and make it yours.

So….I think I need to divulge a little on my approach to books and I know some of you will want to turn away now 😬 (sorry…. to some of you who I know will hate this soo much).

OK, so to me, a pristine book is a blank canvas for the reader to own.
💥My books are annotated inside…
💥… and out
💥 The blank pages at the front and back are golden opportunities for drafting.
💥 If I don’t like the front cover..it comes off.
💥 If I like multiple front covers, I buy the book twice (I’m sure there is a third copy of Handmaid somewhere 🤷🏼‍♀️)
💥 If I absolutely can’t part with it, it’s coming with me.
💥I fold pages, and many have cat chewed corners… this shows it is seldom on a shelf gathering dust.

And honestly, if none of the above apply to a book I own, it’s not a beloved book.

(Spare a thought for the thesaurus ✂️🤯)

So please don’t think you need to keep ’42’ perfect. I’d be utterly thrilled if I thought it had earned your annotation, corner folding or inspired you to scribble some words of your own.

The cover is ace though…. don’t rip that off 😉
