What Inspires You?

Everything.  There are disciplined writers out there who have a plan, and a focus.  I’ll be honest; that will never be me.  I have very little control over the direction my writing takes.  Sometimes it’s a tiny almost non-moment, like in ‘Connection’ (grateful for the traffic jam to get that one down instantly!) Other times it is a far longer, more reflective or cumulative event or experience, perhaps ‘In Loco Parentis’ shows that?

The tag line for Calon Wyrdd is ‘writing a pathway through life.’  As the months since the first imaginings of Calon Wyrdd roll by, I’m realising the truth in that is absolute.  The pieces, chronologically really do act as stepping stones of my life.

Truth inspires me.  Stuff, real stuff.  Real emotion, real events, real encounters.  Tiny little lost things that seep through the cracks in the fractures and fissures of life.  Last week I had a day in Snowdonia and stopped a while looking at the glacial deposits in the stunning unspoilt landscapes.  The little bits left behind by life’s unstoppable glacial-scale erosion; that’s where you’ll find me writing my inspiration.  There’s a true beauty in the debris and it outlasts the glacier.  Always.

Usually found with a cup of tea, a pet or a book, I am most content with life's humble gifts. A catch up with friends and home baked cakes is my idea of bliss. My heart beats where my family are close but my soul will always be in that place between sunset and sunrise. 💚
