Saturdays we shared tea
And chat and laughter
A time out from the world.
I cannot recall a single thing we said.
But I remember us
Those women cradling hot tea
Not knowing those connections
Were the prologue
Of a script we hadn’t seen.
Can you imagine,  what we’d have given,
Then,
For a mid week night in the pub?
Just across the road
An unassailable vacuum away.

We crossed the road.

Mid week we raised a glass.
Cheers. And a deep sigh.
I will recall every word we said.
There was still laughter
It was still a time out from the world.
I think this is the volta
To the script we’ve now seen.
Can you imagine? We said,  what we’d give,
Now,
For those Saturday mornings again?
Just across the road
An unassailable vacuum away.

Usually found with a cup of tea, a pet or a book, I am most content with life's humble gifts. A catch up with friends and home baked cakes is my idea of bliss. My heart beats where my family are close but my soul will always be in that place between sunset and sunrise. 💚
