September Was

We waited August for September
Lustrous conker shine secret
bided our six weeks’ time
as reddening raspberries
bide their time.
September was
a breath held
waiting to exhale in freedoms
empty parks
quiet shops
and space to be unrushed
in zoos
it was.

Free
conker crack
split wide beauty
laughter swirling
russet crisp falling
kicking up the leaves and
it was

September was.

It was anticipation
for the free film festival
Halloween, Bonfire Night,
galloping towards December lights
and autumn whispering
“I’ll be there soon.”

That’s what
September was.

Usually found with a cup of tea, a pet or a book, I am most content with life's humble gifts. A catch up with friends and home baked cakes is my idea of bliss. My heart beats where my family are close but my soul will always be in that place between sunset and sunrise. 💚
