Why ‘Calon Wyrdd’?

Calon Wyrdd is Welsh for ‘green heart’ and the idea represents many aspects of me.  I am incredibly fortunate to be able to call Wales my home and, whilst I cannot speak Welsh, I am passionate about Welsh heritage and culture.  Choosing a Welsh name for this writing is a bit of an indulgence.

All my writing comes right from the heart and is raw and authentic.  I seldom edit more than an odd word or punctuation mark and many of the poems you see on here reflect that heartfelt emotion.  As for the green, well, green is my favourite colour.  I adore the greening of spring and the colour screams life, hope and abundance to me.

Of course, the green heart of the ivy leaf is the epitome of all these ideas – and can be found everywhere.  There is something quite magical about seeing absolute beauty in a plant everyone can recognise regardless of where they live or the time of year.

Usually found with a cup of tea, a pet or a book, I am most content with life's humble gifts. A catch up with friends and home baked cakes is my idea of bliss. My heart beats where my family are close but my soul will always be in that place between sunset and sunrise. 💚
