Passive Wordplay

Discuss.  Debate.  Disagree.
As if you are here with a cup of tea.
Let it sit.  Let it be.
Then you do you. I’ll do me.

Soften it with a wicked meme
And then tell me what’s for tea,
Swap a picture of a pet
Nostalgia tales of when we met.

Then discuss, debate, disagree
Keep your thought and ideas free,
discuss, debate, discuss again
thrash out thought, keep me sane.

Why are we scared to share our views?
So focused on superficial news?
Why can’t we throw some thoughts about?
Question ideas, me out.

Why have our brains become suppressed?
And nagging curiosities laid to rest?
Where are the people who want to think?
And join dots and concepts, link by link?

Now gifs and memes they have their place
And in cyberland the face replace,
And, yeah, that’s cool-your dinner plate
And hearing what you did when you went out late…

But I remember days gone by
When conversation was not so dry,
When it was ok to disagree
When speech was open, thoughts ran free.

When conversations thundered, plodded, hiked
through topics dissected long into the night,
so often now talk tiptoes: scared
words cower quiet – play truth..if you dared

Discuss, debate and disagree
keep all our thoughts and ideas free
without the angry defensive stance..
…a beautiful, complex verbal dance.

Usually found with a cup of tea, a pet or a book, I am most content with life's humble gifts. A catch up with friends and home baked cakes is my idea of bliss. My heart beats where my family are close but my soul will always be in that place between sunset and sunrise. 💚
