Dystopia Presents…

A snapshot of moments thoughts and ideas,
In what has been the most blindsiding of years.
Unrecognisable now from a  time from before,
It’s taken so much and given so much more.

It’s taken our money, our jobs and carefree days,
And put a pause on what we do in so many ways.
Everything that defines us, for many that’s lost,
Identity…purpose – hard to tally the cost.

There’s been anger and fear, confusion and dread,
Forced to live minute to minute; sword over our head.
And yet from this darkness crackles of laughter and light
As we find people who gave us the courage to fight.

In society’s chaos and global demise,
Through the fog and the dust together we rise.
And it’s heavy, the fog, that makes the future obscure,
And you don’t know how much you can endure.

Through the dust though, we reach out and find those hand holding hands
They hold us and pull us from relentless demands.
And with abundant hearts giving, heavy feet start to run,
The work of the shadows is slowly undone.

We can outrun the dust and the fog and the dark,
gathering speed, unleashing a spark.
Every day has had moments of laughter release
A respite from horror; a moment of peace.

It’s a dark humoured joke making you laugh til you cry
A photo from afar of a perfect night sky.
It’s a video of a journey we walked with our peers
set to haunting music that takes you back years.
It’s a playlist in your inbox that makes your feet dance
A film recommendation for when you get the chance.
It’s a jar of homemade jam knocking at the door
or a plant shared with a neighbour you haven’t grown before.
It’s a book swap with chocolate and quiz nights of fun
Bara brith with a cuppa; berries picked in summer sun.
It’s a burst of late night laughter from a message on your phone
that reassures you you’re not crazy; not doing this alone.

It’s all these priceless gifts and many more every day
that has made this global glitch a blessing in a way.
We’ll not forget these months when we’re older and wise
Memories will be a smile in our eyes.

Because it’s hateful and horrid and divisive and rough,
And we’re worn with it all and truly had enough.
It’s sad, I suppose it took dystopian nightmare
To appreciate the magic in life everywhere.

But it did.  And it has and from now on we must
Seek out the crackles of laughter no matter how oppressive the dust.
And these hand holding hands that pulled us through the pain
Let it never take a disaster to make us reach out again.

Usually found with a cup of tea, a pet or a book, I am most content with life's humble gifts. A catch up with friends and home baked cakes is my idea of bliss. My heart beats where my family are close but my soul will always be in that place between sunset and sunrise. 💚

Amen to all of that. There was nothing before us and everything before us. I learnt a lot about myself in that dark time and much about others too. Beautifully summed up, Eve x
